Factors that boost your chances
- Strong, specific study plan (not generic)
- Pre-admission letter from a professor
- Published research papers
- GPA above 3.5/4.0 (or 85%+)
- Research alignment with China's development priorities
- Letters from well-known professors
- Applying to less competitive universities (Tier 2–3 cities)
Factors that hurt your chances
- Vague or personal-narrative study plan
- GPA below 3.0/4.0 (or 75%)
- Applying only to Tsinghua/Peking (ultra-competitive)
- No connection to any Chinese professor
- Incomplete or late documentation
- Using a paid agency (risk of fraud)
- A country with very high applicant numbers and a small quota
