Arrival Preparation Checklist

Results for the 2027/28 intake are expected in late July or early August 2027, leaving only a few weeks before the September start. Track your progress from selection to arrival.

VPN Installation Reminder

This cannot be stressed enough: install a VPN on your phone, laptop and tablet BEFORE you leave your home country. Once in China, VPN download sites are blocked. Without a VPN, you cannot access Google, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram or most Western services. See our Great Firewall guide for details.

First Weeks in China

1. 1
   Day 1

   Register at the university

   Go to the international student office. Bring ALL original documents. Complete registration and get your student ID.

2. 2
   Day 1–2

   Police registration (24-hour rule)

   Register at the local police station within 24 hours. The university usually arranges group registration.

3. 3
   Week 1

   Bank account + SIM card

   Open a Chinese bank account (ICBC or Bank of China). Get a Chinese SIM card. Set up WeChat Pay.

4. 4
   Weeks 2–4

   Medical exam + residence permit

   Complete the second medical examination. Apply for the residence permit (must be done within 30 days of arrival).
