Do All Applicants Get Interviewed?
No. Interviews are more common for Type A (embassy route) applicants and vary by country. Some embassies interview everyone, others interview only shortlisted candidates, and some skip interviews entirely. For Type B (university route), interviews are less common but some universities conduct them for PhD applicants.

Tips from Successful Scholars
"I prepared by reading about CSC's mission statement and memorizing key facts about my target university. When they asked why I chose Zhejiang University, I mentioned Professor Zhang's 2024 paper on renewable energy storage. The panel nodded — they clearly appreciated that I had done my homework."
— PhD scholar, Zhejiang University, 2025 intake
"The biggest mistake I saw other candidates make was treating it like a job interview. They talked about their achievements and qualifications. But the panel wanted to hear about research plans and how I would use the opportunity. I focused 80% on my research and 20% on personal background."
— Master's scholar, Peking University, 2024 intake
"One candidate in my interview group said they needed the scholarship because their family was poor and they couldn't afford education otherwise. The panel's faces dropped. Another said they chose China because Western scholarships rejected them. Both were eliminated. CSC wants motivated scholars, not desperate applicants."
