The Numbers: 250K vs 5K
Türkiye Burslari is one of the most competitive scholarships in the world. Here's the data.
Country-Level Competition
Not all countries have the same number of spots. Quotas are allocated diplomatically, meaning some countries get far more spots than others relative to their applicant pool.
Estimated Acceptance Rates by Country
Numbers are estimates based on scholar reports and community data. YTB does not publish official country quotas. Turkic and conflict-affected countries tend to receive more spots relative to applicants.
What Makes Winners Stand Out
Based on interviews with accepted scholars, here's what differentiates the 2-5% who get in.
Original, Specific Motivation Letter
Not copied from templates. References specific Turkish universities, professors, or research groups. Tells a personal story that no one else could write. See motivation letter guide.
GPA Significantly Above Minimum
Most accepted scholars have GPAs 10-15% above the minimum. For Master's, that means 85%+ rather than the 75% minimum. For undergrad, 80%+ rather than 70%.
Clear "Return Home" Plan
Scholars who articulate exactly how they'll use their degree back home — with concrete plans like starting a company, teaching at a university, or working for a specific organization — score higher than those with vague "development" goals.
Strong Interview Performance
Confident but humble, specific but concise, enthusiastic about Turkey but not sycophantic. Knowing basic facts about Turkey and having researched the university they chose. See interview guide.
Extracurricular Activities & Leadership
Community service, volunteer work, club leadership, publications, conferences. These show you're more than just grades. TB wants future leaders and ambassadors, not just students.
Strategic University Selection
Mixing big and small cities, researching programme quality rather than just prestige, and showing you've done homework on your university choices. See university placement guide.
Don't Like the Odds? Explore Alternatives
With a 2-5% acceptance rate, applying to Türkiye Burslari alone is risky. Hedge your bets with parallel applications.
