Required Documents
Your documents are the first thing reviewers see. Incomplete, blurry or incorrectly formatted documents are the #1 reason for automatic rejection — before anyone even reads your motivation letter.
YTB's own list of uploads for every applicant is short: a valid passport or ID card, a photo taken within the last year, national exam results (if any), your diploma or temporary graduation certificate, your transcript, international exam results (GRE, GMAT, SAT, etc.) and language test results (TOEFL, DELF, etc.) if your chosen programme requires them, and, for PhD applicants only, a research proposal and a sample of research you have written. The checklist below adds what applicants typically prepare on top.

Medical Form Requirements
The medical report is required after acceptance, not during the application. But many applicants are caught off guard by it, so start preparing early.
- Complete blood work (CBC, liver function, etc.)
- Chest X-ray (tuberculosis screening)
- Hepatitis B and C tests
- HIV test
- General physical examination
- Vaccination records
- Must be less than 6 months old
- Translated into English or Turkish
- From an authorised medical facility
- Costs vary by country ($50–300)
- Processing can take 2–4 weeks
- Some countries require an apostille
Translation Requirements
Sworn translation. Every document not in English or Turkish must be translated by a sworn or certified translator, with the translator's stamp, signature and certification number. Notarised translations are also accepted in most cases.
Apostille (some countries). Documents from Hague Convention countries need an apostille; non-Hague countries need consular legalisation from the Turkish embassy. Check your country's rules early — this can take weeks.
The Expired Passport Problem
YTB only asks for a valid passport or ID card, but we suggest one valid for at least 18 months from the date of application. If it expires within that period, renew it BEFORE applying. Here's why this catches people:
- Passport renewal takes 2–6 weeks in many countries.
- The deadline is 20 February 2027 — if you start renewing in February, you might miss it.
- Your name on the application must match your new passport.
- Your visa application later will also require a valid passport.
If your passport expires before August 2028, start the renewal process immediately.
File Format & Upload Tips
PDF or JPEG only; some fields accept PNG. Do NOT upload Word documents (.docx) — they won't be accepted.
Under 2MB per file. Use PDF compression tools (iLovePDF, SmallPDF). Large files fail silently — no error message.
Use a scanner, not a phone camera. If you must use a phone, use CamScanner or Adobe Scan. Make sure all text is legible and pages are straight.
