How to Apply — Step-by-Step
Unlike most scholarships, you cannot apply directly to the CSC. Follow this interactive step wizard to navigate the multi-stage nomination process.

You must be nominated through an approved body in your country. This guide walks through the entire multi-stage process.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
Before anything else, confirm you meet the core criteria: citizen of a developing Commonwealth country, right academic qualifications, financial need, and commitment to return home.

Find your country's approved nominating agency (usually Ministry of Education or University Grants Commission). Check the CSC website for the official list.
Their deadline is EARLIER than the CSC deadline. Contact them immediately.
Step 3: Research UK Universities & Courses
You can list up to 3 course preferences. Choose courses aligned with your country's development needs and your development impact statement. Check university entry requirements and English language scores.
Step 4: Prepare Your Application
Key documents needed:
- Development Impact Statement (most critical)
- Personal Statement
- Academic CV
- Two references (at least one academic)
- Research proposal (PhD only)
Step 5: Submit to Nominating Body
Submit your completed application to your national nominating body by THEIR deadline (not the CSC deadline). They may require additional documents or forms beyond the standard CSC application.
Step 6: National Selection
Your nominating body reviews all applications from your country, may conduct interviews, and selects the strongest candidates to forward to the CSC. This is often the most competitive stage.
Step 7: CSC Review
The CSC reviews all nominated candidates from all countries. Selection panels assess development impact, academic merit, and leadership potential. This happens Feb-Apr.
Step 8: Results & Next Steps
Results announced May-Jun. If selected, you receive a conditional offer and guidance on university placement, visa, and pre-departure preparation.
