Academic Expectations

• Master's: attend all lectures, complete assignments on time, aim for Merit or Distinction.
• PhD: meet your supervisor regularly, stay on track with your research plan, complete milestones on schedule.
• All scholars: maintain full-time study. Do not switch courses without CSC approval — your plan of study is not expected to change significantly.

Rules to Know

• You are expected to live in the UK throughout the award and must get CSC approval before any overseas travel.
• No paid employment without advance approval from the CSC.
• An award may be terminated for unsatisfactory conduct, progress or attendance.
• The CSC will only consider extending your stay after the award if you are moving from Master's to PhD study, under strict conditions.

Managing Your Finances

Your stipend (GBP 1,712/month, or GBP 2,000 in London, at 2027/28 rates) is paid monthly to your UK bank account. Budget carefully: rent is typically GBP 500–700 outside London.

The CSC Alumni Network

The alumni network is one of the most valuable parts of the scholarship: since 1960 the CSC has funded more than 31,000 people across Commonwealth countries. Engage with events, connect with other scholars, and build relationships that last beyond your studies.
