No. KNB is a soft-diplomacy award for foreign nationals from developing countries or countries with diplomatic relations with Indonesia. Refugees and stateless applicants cannot apply. Nationals of developed countries are assessed with input from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Yes, in the 2026 FAQ: 2.75 for the bachelor’s level and 3.00 for master’s and doctoral levels.
No. Provide a statement from your institution confirming that your country is English-speaking, or official proof that your prior programme was taught in English. Other tests such as Duolingo are acceptable if they assess writing, listening, and speaking.
No. Only an Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia. The letter must be from your country of origin, not domicile, and dated in the selection year.
Upload a statement that you are not currently working and are free to accept KNB if selected.
No. You cannot apply at a level you already hold. The same rule applies at master’s and doctoral level. Discovery after acceptance can lead to investigation and sanctions.
No. Once confirmed, university and programme cannot be changed.
No. You take BIPA for up to one year and must pass it before academic study in Bahasa in regular classes.
Tuition, monthly living expenses, arrival allowance, book and research allowance, publication assistance, arrival and return transport upon graduation, and monthly health insurance, according to the terms. This guide does not invent IDR amounts.
No. Awardees cannot bring family; universities cannot sponsor family immigration. The focus is completing studies on time and returning home after graduation. Marriage during the award is not permitted under the published FAQ.
Dormitory availability depends on the university. KNB follows each campus policy.
If an awardee withdraws or fails to meet requirements after selection, they can be blacklisted from future KNB selections and may have to return funds already received.
Not published as of 21 September 2026. The last cycle ran 2 February–31 March 2026. Treat February–March as the historical pattern only. Do not rely on an invented 31 March 2027 date.
Yes — name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, and passport number. Discrepancies result in disqualification. A one-day date-of-birth difference from time zones is the only noted system exception.
