No embassy letter, no account that counts
The Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General recommendation is the mandatory first verification step. Official FAQ language: applicants cannot register without a recommendation from the Indonesian Representative in the relevant country. Management accepts letters only from an Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia or a Consulate General — not from an honorary consul.
The letter must come from your country of origin, not country of domicile. If you are living abroad, you still go through the mission accredited to your home country. If there is no Indonesian official representative in your country, obtain the letter from any Indonesian Embassy accredited to your country. Find missions at kemlu.go.id/perwakilan.
The recommendation year must match the selection year. For the 2026 cycle, only letters signed in 2026 were accepted. The next cycle will require a letter dated in that selection year — do not reuse a 2026 letter for a later call.
How missions issue the letter (official FAQ)
- Locate the mission. Use the Kemlu representative directory for your home country.
- Contact them by phone or email and request a KNB recommendation, attaching the Offering Letter and the document set listed on the documents page.
- Verification and interview. The embassy contacts you for checks and an interview. Letters are issued after verification and necessary background and/or security checks.
- What they review. Educational background (for example GPA, final diploma, institutional reputation), work history if any, and the validity of submitted documents.
What to put in the embassy packet
The official procedure list for the Representative includes: Offering Letter; official passport; CV; English test (non-English-speaking countries); employer recommendation (or unemployment statement); academic recommendation; legalized certificate and transcript; medical report; and, for doctoral applicants, potential supervisor recommendation and statement of purpose. All in English or Bahasa where required.
Missions set their own appointment and email rules. Start early — in 2026, embassy administrative selection itself ran 6–17 April, after the 31 March portal close, but you needed the letter before you could finish registration in February–March.
Agents cannot replace a mission
Soliciting is prohibited. A paid “fixing” service cannot substitute for an Embassy or Consulate General letter. If someone offers a letter from an honorary consul or from a mission in a country that is only your domicile, the portal rules say that file will not be accepted.
