The Stipendium Hungaricum application cycle spans nearly a full year from preparation to arrival. The main deadline is January 15, but there are critical dates before and after that you must not miss.

The portal closes at 23:59 CET. No extensions. No exceptions.

Prepare Documents
Get translations, apostilles, language certificates. Some sending partners have December deadlines.
DreamApply Deadline
Submit your online application with all documents. Portal closes at 23:59 CET.
Sending Partner Nomination
Your country’s sending partner sends the nomination list to Tempus Public Foundation.
University Review & Interviews
The long wait. Universities review nominated applications. Some conduct online interviews. No status updates available.
Medical Certificate Deadline
For applicants who didn’t submit medical certificate with initial application.
Results Announced
Check DreamApply portal and email. If awarded, begin visa process immediately.
Visa & Preparation
Apply for residence permit, arrange accommodation, book travel.
Semester Starts
Arrive in Hungary, complete registration, orientation, begin classes.
The 6-Month Wait Explained
From January 15 (deadline) to June/July (results), you'll wait approximately 5-6 months with essentially no updates. This is one of the most psychologically difficult aspects of the SH application.
Why so long? After the deadline, sending partners compile nomination lists (2-4 weeks). Then Tempus cross-references nominations with DreamApply submissions. Then universities individually review applications, potentially conduct interviews, and make decisions. With 52,000+ applications across 900+ programmes, this takes months.
What to do during the wait: Don't put your life on hold. Continue with backup plans, apply to other scholarships, and avoid checking DreamApply daily (the status won't change until the final decision).
