Stipendium Hungaricum Deadline 2027
The current cycle is the 2027/28 call. Its official dates are not yet published, but recent cycles opened in November and closed in mid-January. Here's the full timeline and what to expect.

The Key Deadline
Stipendium Hungaricum is an annual programme. The current cycle is the 2027/28 call, for studies starting in September 2027. As of October 2026, its official dates are not yet published on stipendiumhungaricum.hu/apply. The 2026/27 call documents appeared in October 2025, the online system opened on 14 November 2025 and closed on 15 January 2026, 14:00 CET; the previous call also closed on 15 January. Use that window as the pattern and prepare documents now — but do not treat a January 2027 day as confirmed until Tempus publishes it.
Each sending partner sets its own deadline and requirements, often in December or early January. Ask yours as soon as the call opens.

Your country's sending partner sends the nomination list to Tempus Public Foundation.
- 5By 15 Mar 2027Supervisor statements (PhD)
Doctoral applicants whose school requires it upload the supervisor's statement (15 March 2026 in the last cycle).

The long wait. Universities review nominated applications and hold entrance exams or online interviews. No status updates available.

Check the online system and your email. If awarded, begin the visa process immediately and get your medical certificate signed.

Apply for your visa/residence permit, arrange accommodation, book travel.

Arrive in Hungary (by 30 September in the last cycle), complete registration and orientation, begin classes.
Earlier versions of this guide listed a 15 April medical certificate deadline. Under the current rules, scholarship holders don't submit the certificate in advance: they bring it to Hungary and present it at the compulsory medical examination. See Documents.
The Six-Month Wait Explained
From the mid-January deadline to results at the end of June or July, you'll wait approximately 5–6 months with essentially no updates. This is one of the most psychologically difficult aspects of the SH application.
Why so long? After the deadline, sending partners compile nomination lists (2–4 weeks). Then Tempus cross-references nominations with online submissions. Then universities individually review applications, hold entrance exams or interviews, and make decisions. With a record 113,806 applications in the 2026/27 call across about 900 BA/MA-level and 170 doctoral programmes, this takes months.
What to do during the wait: Don't put your life on hold. Continue with backup plans, apply to other scholarships, and avoid checking the portal daily (the status won't change until the final decision).
