Stipendium Hungaricum After Selection: Next Steps

Congratulations — you got the scholarship! But the work isn't over. Between results (end of June or July) and the September semester start, you have a packed timeline of tasks. Miss any of them and your scholarship could be revoked.

Results announced
Check the online system and your email. Accept it in the online system within the time given (usually one week, and by 1 August at the latest in the last cycle).

Jul
Get your medical certificate
Have a physician complete the official Tempus template, with the attachments it lists. It must be recently issued (for 2026/27, no earlier than 1 November 2025). You don't upload it — you bring it to Hungary for the compulsory medical examination.

Jul–Aug
Apply for your residence permit and visa
Apply at the Hungarian consulate straight after the decision. Tempus says the visa can officially take 30 days, and the immigration authority has up to 60 days to decide. See the visa guide.

Arrange accommodation
Confirm your dormitory place or start searching for private accommodation. See the housing guide.

Arrive in Hungary
Orientation week, university registration, dormitory check-in, and the university's medical examination.

Arrival Checklist

First Week Survival Guide

Day 1–2: Settle in

Check into your dormitory/accommodation. Buy a Hungarian SIM card (Telekom, Vodafone or Yettel). Get a transport pass. Stock up on groceries at the nearest supermarket.

Day 3–4: Administrative tasks

Register in person at your university’s international office and complete enrolment. Register your accommodation with the immigration authority through Enter Hungary. Get your student ID card.

Day 5–6: Healthcare & banking

Start the TAJ card application. Open a bank account (OTP, K&H or Erste are common). Set up online banking for stipend deposits.

Day 7: Orientation

Attend university orientation. Meet other SH scholars. Join social media groups for your university's international students. Explore your neighbourhood.
