DAAD CV Format Guide
How to structure a CV for your DAAD application: a tabular, reverse-chronological document of up to three pages, with dates on the left and details on the right.
The Format at a Glance
A DAAD CV follows a few simple rules. Keep it to a maximum of three pages, lay it out as a two-column table, list everything in reverse chronological order, and leave the photo off unless you're asked for one.
CV Sections
Here's what to include in each section, in order. Dates go on the left, details on the right.
- 1Personal Information
Full name, date of birth, nationality, and contact details (email, phone, address). No photo unless specifically requested.
- 2Education
All degrees with dates, institution, field, and final grade/GPA. Most recent first. Include your thesis title if relevant.
- 3Work Experience
Job title, employer, dates, and 2–3 bullet points on responsibilities. Include internships and research assistant positions.
- 4Language Skills
List each language with its level (native, C1, B2, etc.) and the test name/score if available. German skills are a plus even for English programs.
- 5Publications & Presentations
If applicable. Use a consistent citation format, and note whether you were sole author, co-author, or corresponding author.
- 6Awards & Scholarships
List any academic honors, prizes, or previous scholarships, with a brief description of each.
- 7Extracurricular & Volunteer Work
This shows character and engagement. Include relevant community service, student organizations, or professional memberships.
