17 October 2026 is a Saturday. SSHRC has already moved its direct close to Monday. NSERC and CIHR publish the 17 October rule plus the weekend rollover. File according to the portal you actually use.
What this page will not invent
Institutional dates are local. Toronto, Alberta, McMaster and others publish their own September or early-October cuts; those are campus rules, not a national second deadline. CIHR application instructions have also mentioned an October 19, 2027 example for direct sponsor deadlines — treat that as a later-cycle note unless CIHR’s live competition page says otherwise.
