Critical 2026 Update After Winning

CAF Housing Aid
for Students in France

CAF provides EUR 100–280 per month toward your rent. The application is entirely in French, processing takes 2–5 months, and a massive 2026 change is about to eliminate aid for the vast majority of non-EU students.

2026 Changes to CAF

Major 2026 Change

An estimated 95% of non-EU students will lose CAF housing aid (APL/ALS) starting 2026. This adds €1,200–3,000/year to your living costs. Recalculate your budget immediately.

Before 2026

Almost every student (EU and non-EU) could receive €100–250/month housing aid. One of the best benefits of studying in France.

After 2026

Non-EU students on standard residence permits likely excluded. Only scholarship holders with specific statuses may still qualify.

Do I Still Qualify?

Are you an EU/EEA citizen?

Do you hold a French government scholarship (Eiffel, BGF)?

You should still qualify for CAF. EU/EEA citizens are not affected by the 2026 changes.

You may still qualify. French government scholarship holders have a special status. Check with your scholarship coordinator and CAF directly.

You likely will NOT qualify for CAF in 2026. Budget €100–250/month extra for housing costs.
