After Selection:
Surviving Your First Month in France

You won the scholarship. Congratulations. Now the real challenge begins: French bureaucracy. This guide walks you through every step from visa validation to opening a bank account, registering for social security, and actually settling in.

Arrival Dependency Chain

Each step depends on the previous one. Follow this order exactly.

1. Accept scholarship offer

Respond within deadline. Sign and return acceptance forms.

2. Apply for visa (VLS-TS)

Requires: admission letter + scholarship letter. Book TLS Contact early.

3. Secure housing

CROUS application or private rental. Need Visale guarantee. Start the moment you accept.

4. Arrive in France

Bring all original documents. Cash for first week. Housing address confirmed.

5. OFII validation (within 3 months)

Online at validated.ofii.fr. Pay €50 tax stamp. Makes your VLS-TS a residence permit.

6. Open bank account

Need: passport + proof of address + student ID. Try BNP, Société Générale, or online banks (Boursorama).

7. Register for social security (Ameli)

At etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr. Free health coverage for all students.

8. Pay CVEC + enroll

€103 CVEC fee at cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr. Then complete university enrollment.
