What ETH writes about the money

The official sentence is that the scholarship covers the full study and living costs during the Master’s. The quantified award is CHF 12,000 per semester, rising to CHF 13,500 from HS27, “as well as a tuition fee waiver.” Both the cash scholarship and the waiver last for the regular Master’s duration only — three or four semesters.

For 2027/28 ETH will assign approximately 60 ESOP scholarships. The exact number depends on the availability of funds. Admissions committees of the respective Master’s programmes evaluate applications, the final award decision rests with the Rector, and communication is at the end of March.

What ETH does not publish

ETH does not publish a family supplement, a travel grant or a Zurich rent figure on the ESOP page. Treat CHF 13,500 per semester as the official living-and-study amount — not as a salary, and not as a guarantee that every cost in the city is covered once you choose housing.

• An older paper form mentioned an “ETH-D Scholarship.” The current ESOP page does not. Treat ETH-D as unverified for HS27 unless ETH republishes it.
• What the waiver is worth: since the autumn semester 2025 ETH has two tuition groups. Swiss students and students who were resident in Switzerland or Liechtenstein when they earned their school-leaving certificate pay CHF 730 per semester. Most other foreign students pay the threefold fee of CHF 2,190 per semester. Source: ETH tuition fees. ESOP waives tuition for the regular duration. The ESOP page does not say whether separate semester fees are also waived, so ask the Financial Aid Office.
