After the Rector’s ESOP Decision

Committees evaluate and the Rector awards; communication is at the end of March 2027. Mentorship and the ETH Foundation network are part of the official package, and admission can stand without ESOP.

Who decides

Applications are evaluated by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programmes. The final decision on awarding ESOP scholarships rests with the Rector of ETH Zurich, and decisions are communicated by the end of March. About 60 scholarships are planned for 2027/28; the exact number depends on funds.

If you receive no nomination for ESOP, your Master’s admission is unaffected.

That is the official FAQ, and it is blunt. Do not withdraw a strong admission file because ESOP did not arrive.

If awarded: note the duration (3 or 4 semesters) and the HS27 rate of CHF 13,500 per semester
If not awarded: admission can still stand (official FAQ: no nomination, admission unaffected)
ETH Bachelor only: a leave-of-absence start is the one published exception

Mentorship and the Foundation network

ETH describes ESOP as a scholarship plus mentorship plus a network of the ETH Foundation. The current ESOP page does not publish a mentorship syllabus or a mandatory event calendar. After an award, follow whatever onboarding the Financial Aid Office and the Foundation send — do not invent obligations from blogs.

Visa, housing and insurance

Visa, housing and health insurance are ETH enrolment topics, not quantified on the ESOP page. If you need a student visa, start from ETH’s own entering-Switzerland pages once you have admission — not from an ESKAS canton-permit checklist.
