How to Apply for
Erasmus Mundus

The application process that confuses everyone. There is no central portal, each programme has its own system, and the rules change depending on which consortium you pick. Here is how to navigate it without losing your mind.

1. Research & Shortlist Programmes

Browse the Erasmus Mundus Catalogue. Filter by subject, country, duration. Shortlist exactly 3. Research each consortium's mobility track, partner universities, and alumni experiences.

Timeline: Jun–Sep (6+ months before deadline)

2. Check Each Programme's Requirements

Visit each programme's own website. Note: motivation letter word count, required documents, specific language tests, CV format, portfolio needs. These differ for every programme.

Key: Create a spreadsheet tracking each programme's unique requirements.

3. Prepare Your Documents

Transcripts, degree certificates, language test scores (valid!), CV, passport copy. Get translations if needed. Some require certified copies.

4. Write Your Motivation Letter(s)

One for each programme — tailored, specific, personal. This is the most important document. Budget 2–4 weeks minimum.

5. Secure Reference Letters

Ask 2–3 professors/supervisors who know you well. Give them 4–6 weeks. Brief them on the programme and share your CV.

6. Register & Submit

Register on each programme's portal. Upload everything. Double-check formats, sizes, file names. Submit 48+ hours before deadline — servers crash on the last day every year.

Warning: Most deadlines fall between January–March. Self-funded deadlines may be later.

7. Wait for Results

Main list: February–May. Reserve list: could be until September. You cannot contact programmes to ask about status. Be prepared for months of waiting.
