Lester B. Pearson Scholarship FAQ 2027

Sixteen common questions about the Pearson Scholarship, answered from U of T’s official Pearson, admissions and fees pages. If this page and U of T ever disagree, U of T wins.

The answers below are drawn from U of T’s Pearson Scholarship page, its counsellor FAQ, the Pearson Program Office and U of T admissions pages. For anything not covered, use the official Pearson inquiry form.

Nomination and eligibility

No. Your current secondary school must nominate you through U of T’s online process. Only nominees receive the private link to the scholarship application.

One student per year. U of T describes the school’s choice of its top candidate as part of the selection process.

For 2027 entry, a staff member must submit the school participation form with an official school email by noon (ET) on 9 October 2026. Verification can take up to four weeks in peak periods, so act immediately.

A non-Canadian who requires a study permit to study in Canada. International students attending high schools in Canada are eligible. Canadian citizens, permanent residents and dual citizens holding Canadian citizenship are not.

No. For September 2027 entry, you must be in your final year of secondary school in 2026/27 or have graduated no earlier than June 2026.

No. Students already attending post-secondary studies, or starting post-secondary studies in January 2027, are not eligible.

No. U of T says the Pearson program does not work with agencies or educational agents. Treat any offer of paid help or guaranteed scholarships as fraud.

Applying and selection

School nomination: 9 October 2026. U of T admission application: 16 October 2026. Pearson application and all documents: 6 November 2026.

No. The regular deadline is 15 January 2027, but Pearson consideration requires your admission application by 16 October 2026.

Yes, up to three program areas. But the Pearson Scholarship, if awarded, is restricted to your top choice of program when scholarship decisions are made.

U of T does not publish them; nominees see them in a private form. The published criteria are exceptional academic achievement, creativity, leadership within your school and potential to contribute to the global community.

No. U of T prohibits generative AI tools when creating content for any undergraduate award application. Nominees found using them are disqualified.

Decision dates for this cycle are not yet published. In the last cycle, recipients were notified from the end of January and all nominees by April. Expect a similar window in 2027.

Money and life at U of T

Tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years, at U of T only, for first-entry undergraduate programs.

It depends on your program and residence. In 2026–27, first-year international tuition is $66,110 in Arts & Science and $72,860 in Engineering, and St. George residence fees range from $9,000 to about $34,000 a year. Visa fees, travel and living costs over the winter and summer breaks are not covered.

U of T says it is publicly funded and cannot offer financial aid to international students. You are, however, automatically considered for most admission scholarships, such as the $15,000 President’s Scholars of Excellence award and the Arts & Science Global Scholarship.
