Common Document Mistakes
Every year, strong candidates lose out because of avoidable document errors.
IELTS and TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years. If yours expire before the deadline, retake the test.
Name must match passport exactly. Middle names, spellings, everything. Mismatch causes visa problems.
If referees miss the deadline, your application is incomplete. Always have a backup referee in mind.
Conditional offers don't count. All conditions must be cleared before the Chevening deadline.
Letters need job title, dates, and hours worked. Vague "to whom it may concern" letters aren't enough.
Convert to PDF, check file sizes, test uploads before the last minute. The system gets slow near deadline.
Reference Tips
Give 3-4 weeks notice
Referees are busy people. Early notice prevents last-minute stress.
Brief them on Chevening values
Leadership, networking, career ambition. Give them specific talking points.
Verify their email works
If Chevening can't reach your referee, your application is incomplete.
Follow up politely
Referees forget. Send a gentle reminder a week before their deadline.
