Alternatives to the Rotary Peace Fellowship
If a Rotary family tie, a recent degree or too few years of experience rules you out — or you simply want a second application — these funded routes suit people working in peace and development.
The Rotary Peace Fellowship has rules that exclude many strong candidates: the Rotary-relative restriction, the three-year study gap and the experience minimums. None of the options below has a Rotary-relative rule or a three-year study gap, and most ask for less work experience. Each links to our full guide; check the official site of each for current dates.
When to look elsewhere
- A close relative is a Rotarian. You cannot apply to Rotary at all; the options below have no such rule.
- You finished a degree recently. Rotary needs a three-year gap; most master’s scholarships do not.
- You want a PhD. Rotary does not fund doctoral study.
- You want a second chance this year. Rotary runs one window, February to 15 May. Applying to another scheme with a different calendar spreads your risk.

Other Rotary routes
Rotary clubs and districts also sponsor Global Grant Scholarships for graduate study in Rotary’s areas of focus, which include peacebuilding. These are arranged through a local club or district rather than a single global form, so ask the club you contact through the Club Finder. Remember that a Global Grant Scholarship triggers Rotary’s three-year wait before you could start a Peace Fellowship.
A sensible plan
If you are eligible for Rotary, apply — and apply to one other scheme with a different calendar. A Chevening or Fulbright application in the autumn and a Rotary application in spring do not conflict. If you are not yet eligible, use the waiting time well: build the full-time experience, lead a small project you could later grow into a social change initiative, and come back to Rotary’s application page when you qualify.
