ISEE Parificato: The Family Documents That Decide Your Grant

If your family lives outside Italy, your eligibility is calculated from official certificates issued at home, legalised and translated into Italian. Missing or self-declared papers are the single biggest reason international applicants are excluded.

The ISEE parificato (sometimes ISEEU or ISEEUP) is the foreign-family equivalent of Italy’s ISEE. A tax centre (CAF) approved by your region or university, or the regional body itself, converts your family’s documents into the same two indicators: ISEE and ISPE. Foreign currency is converted at the Bank of Italy’s average exchange rate.

What the documents must show

The lists in DiSCo, ER.GO, EDISU and Tuscany calls overlap almost completely. Your file must prove, for every member of the household:

  1. Family composition — names and dates of birth of everyone in the household. Both parents must appear, even if separated; divorce or death certificates explain an absence.
  2. Gross income for the reference year, for each adult member, including siblings. Unemployed or non-working adults need a certificate saying so.
  3. Buildings owned on 31 December of the reference year, with the surface in square metres — or a certificate that nobody owns property.
  4. Movable assets (bank deposits, savings) on 31 December of the reference year — or proof that there are none.
  5. Where relevant: rent paid for the family home, outstanding mortgage, disability.
No self-declarations

DiSCo and Tuscany both state that no substitute declaration, self-certification, affidavit or sworn statement is accepted. EDISU makes one narrow exception: a notarial self-declaration or affidavit is accepted only to prove the absence of bank savings.

This is where students lose months. The reference year was not the same everywhere in 2026/27:

BodyIncome yearAsset date
DiSCo Lazio202431 Dec 2024
ER.GO202531 Dec 2025
DSU Toscana (non-EU)2025, documents issued in 202631 Dec 2025
EDISU (non-EU)202531 Dec 2025
EDISU (EU citizens)202431 Dec 2024

For 2027/28, expect each body to move forward by a year. Do not ask your family for certificates until you have checked last year’s bando for your region — and confirm again when the 2027/28 call appears.

Legalisation and translation

Certificates must be issued by the competent authorities of the country where the income was earned and the property is held. Then:

  • Legalisation by the Italian embassy or consulate covering that territory — or an apostille if your country is in the 1961 Hague Convention and the call accepts it (ER.GO and Tuscany say so explicitly).
  • Translation into Italian, either by the Italian diplomatic mission or an official translator. DiSCo requires the documents to come from Italian diplomatic authorities in your country, translated into Italian.
  • Hard cases: where the Italian embassy cannot issue certification (war, closure), most calls accept a certificate from your country’s embassy or consulate in Italy, legalised by an Italian Prefettura.

The Foreign Ministry explains the procedures on its translation and legalisation page. Keep a scan of everything: EDISU warns that you will need copies for your university as well.

Where the documents go

  • Lazio: to a DiSCo-approved CAF, in person, by 10 December 2026 (2026/27). The CAF helps for free.
  • Politecnico di Milano and Padova: only to the university’s approved CAF — no other route is valid.
  • ER.GO: uploaded to the Dossier Utente by the application deadline; originals may be requested later.
  • EDISU and Tuscany: originals by post or courier, before the deadline. Tuscany counts the postmark; EDISU counts arrival.
Ignore paid “agents”

ER.GO and EDISU both warn that no agency or intermediary is needed and that offers of help for money can be scams. Falsified documents lead to revocation and a report to the authorities.
