Application Deadlines

The GKS process takes about 12 months from first application to landing in Korea. Missing any single deadline means waiting a full year for the next cycle.

Visual Timeline

JUL
July – August 2026 (expected — 2027 cycle dates to be confirmed)

Start preparing. Contact embassy for country-specific requirements. Begin gathering documents, arranging apostilles, writing essays.

SEP
September – October 2026 (expected — official dates not yet announced)

Embassy track deadline. Submit complete application package to your Korean embassy. Exact dates vary by country and the 2027 cycle has not been officially announced — check with your embassy.

NOV
November – December 2026 (expected — to be confirmed)

Embassy interviews (for embassy track). Format varies by country. See our interview guide.

FEB
February – March 2027 (expected — official dates not yet announced)

University track deadline. Submit documents directly to your chosen Korean university. Mail early — international shipping takes 1-2 weeks.

APR
April – June 2027 (expected — to be confirmed)

Results announced in stages. 1st round NIIED review (April), university matching (May), final confirmation (June). The waiting is brutal.

JUL
July – August 2027 (expected — to be confirmed)

Visa processing. Book flights. Prepare for departure. Connect with other admitted scholars online.

SEP
September 2027 (expected — to be confirmed)

Arrive in Korea. Begin the 1-year Korean language program. Your actual degree starts September 2028.

Key Warning

Each embassy sets its own exact deadline within the Sep-Oct window. Some close in early September, others in late October. Do NOT assume you have until October if your embassy closes in September. Contact your embassy early to confirm the exact date.
