AAUW International Fellowships Timeline: 2027–28 Dates and the Next Window

The application window is short — one month in late summer — and it opens a full year before the award year starts. Here is the official 2027–28 calendar and a plan for 2028–29.

The 2028–29 cycle: what we expect

AAUW has not published 2028–29 dates. If it repeats the 2026 pattern, expect:

The admission problem

Because you must be admitted or enrolled when you apply, the calendar works best for people already in a programme. If the dates move forward one year, a September 2027 application for 2028–29 needs a programme that is still running on about 30 April 2029. That fits:

Doctoral students in any year who will still be enrolled through the award year.
Master’s students in the first year of a two-year programme that ends in or after spring 2029.
Applicants with an offer they have deferred, with written proof of the deferral.

If you are applying now for a U.S. master’s that starts in autumn 2027, you will not have an offer in time for the closed 2027–28 window. Your first realistic AAUW cycle is probably 2028–29, applying in your first semester for your second year. That is our reading of the dates, not an AAUW statement.

A 12-month plan for August 2027

Oct–Dec 2026: confirm your field is on the AAUW STEM list; ask your programme for its CIP code
Jan–Mar 2027: order a WES/ECE evaluation if your transcript is not on a 4.0 scale
Mar–May 2027: book an English test if you lack an exemption (TOEFL 79 / IELTS 6.5 / DET 120)
May–Jun 2027: collect your admission letter or enrolment verification with start and end dates
Jun 2027: ask two recommenders; share the five selection criteria
Jul 2027: draft the narrative and a one-year budget with confirmed and pending support
Mid-Aug 2027: create the portal account the day the window opens; register recommenders first
Early Sep 2027: chase letters; upload certified translations
A week before close: submit — the 2026 window closed at 5:00pm ET

When results come

Decisions arrive in March. AAUW will not release results early on request. If you win, the award letter can support your visa paperwork, and the first instalment arrives between July and September.
